KAROOBAIX

The name KAROOBAIX (pronounced ka-roo-bay) pays homage the Paris-Roubaix race, the murderous European Classic that earned itself the nickname Hell of the North, and our unique, spectacular and sometimes inhospitable semi-desert region of the Karoo.

Tour of Ara 2017

The Tour of Ara, named for the Southern Hemisphere constellation of Ara, is a prestige race that is ridden mostly on South African-built steel racing bicycles in the proud tradition of the early Italian multi-day stage races.

The Tour follows a gruelling new 800 km dirt-road route over six days through the beautiful but harsh semi-desert Karoo every year, and is as much a race as it is an exploration and celebration of this unique landscape and the people that live there.

Cape Epic 2017

  • Google Calendar ICS

"The 14th edition of the Absa Cape Epic will take place from 19 to 26 March 2017 will be as challenging as ever. Local and international mountain bikers will tackle the demanding eight-day adventure through the Western Cape region in South Africa.

The Absa Cape Epic must be completed by both members of a two-person team with only 650 teams and 1300 entrants allowed to ride the race. The route changes every year, leading aspiring amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world through roughly 700km of unspoilt scenery and 15 000m of accumulated climbing, over some of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa.

The Absa Cape Epic is the most televised mountain bike stage race in the world and the only eight-day mountain bike stage race classed as hors catégorie by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). This official UCI status makes it a highlight on the professional racer's calendar. The Absa Cape Epic also attracts aspiring amateur riders wanting to test themselves against the best. It is a full-service race, meaning that everything is taken care of from the start - all riders need to think about is riding."

Eroica South Africa 2017

It's time for the Eroica 2017 !

L’Eroica started in 1997 because of one man, Giancarlo Brocci, who admired the values of a past cycling so much that he wanted to reconnect others to the heritage that inspired much Italian history, literature, culture, and music. L’Eroica was also begun as a foundation for the protection and preservation of the last gravel roads in Tuscany. These romantic concepts led to the idea of L’Eroica, an event that initially saw 92 “hunters of feelings and emotions”, as the creator Giancarlo Brocci defines them

TOUR OF ARA

The Tour of Ara, named for the Southern Hemisphere constellation of Ara, is a prestige race that is ridden mostly on South African-built steel racing bicycles in the proud tradition of the early Italian multi-day stage races.

Tour of Ara 2016 will be raced from 15 - 20 October this year. As always, it will be a race against the clock, and stages will be very difficult and challenging, predominately over varying quality dirt roads, with the longest day being about 200 km. Riders will encounter soft sand, corrugated roads, loose stones and sharp tyre-shredding rocks, and possibly even rain and snow. Get out there and secure yourself a pre-1999 steel road bike built in the country where you live, and get well familiar with it. Tour of Ara 2016 is coming...

World Naked Bike Ride: Cape Town 2015

6th World Naked Bike Ride - Cape Town...!!

Start and Finish at Sea Point Library car park.
Meet at 09:30am, to start riding at 10:00.

This year's key message is:
MAKE CYCLING SAFER!

Clothing is optional: The dress code for the World Naked Bike Ride is "Bare As You Dare"! YOU get to decide how naked you wish to be. If that means completely naked, or completely clothed, the decision is yours...

Keep an eye on this event page and our community page World Naked Bike Ride - Cape Town for updates...

This ride is not about nudity - it's about joining in a world wide campaign/protest for the environment: we ride for cleaner energy, less reliance on fossil fuels, and to encourage more people to cycle!

Remember no gawkers at the ride please. Come and participate: cycle, skate, unicycle, rollerblade, rollerskate, run, jog, walk, push a wheelchair, push a pram... Doesn't matter how dressed or undressed you are... just take part!
